Clinical Health Information Exchange (cHIE)

January 11, 2012

As you may be aware, Utah is creating a Clinical Health Information Exchange, known as the cHIE, and Intermountain is a participating provider. The cHIE gives authorized medical professionals a way to share and view patient information in a secure, electronic manner across the state.

Utah Health Information Network (UHIN), the governing organization for the cHIE, is launching a public education campaign to inform patients about the cHIE and to encourage them to sign a consent form. Patient consent is required for data to flow to and from the cHIE. Having a secure and authorized exchange of data is fundamental to Intermountain’s participation with the cHIE.

We want your office to be prepared to answer questions you may receive from patients.
·          Please direct interested patients and clinicians to register for the cHIE by going to mychie.org.
·          UHIN is distributing patient consent forms to the community at health fairs and in medical clinics. Intermountain is supporting this effort by providing an easy way to get these consent forms into the cHIE system.  If you receive one of these paper consent forms, please send it to the Intermountain Healthcare Information Privacy Office.

Please send paper consent forms to the following address:
Intermountain Healthcare Information Privacy Office

If you prefer, you may also send the forms to UHIN by contacting them at 1-877-693-3071 or www.uhin.org.
