About the Course

Mindful Practice ® programs were created by University of Rochester Medical School, and introduced to Intermountain in the summer of 2015 with the “Introduction to Mindful Practice” workshops. We will continue to offer 8-week Mindful Practice courses, however, in response to requests from practitioners who could not attend an 8-week course, a 3 ½ -day retreat is offered.  (The next 8-week Mindful Practice course will begin October 25th.)

Participation in this program has been shown to improve burnout (cynicism, emotional exhaustion, depersonalization), increase empathy and compassion toward patients and colleagues, increase mindfulness, and compassion to oneself.

Mindful Practice programs have also been shown to advance quality of care, improve relationships with patients and colleagues, and enhance self-awareness, wellness and resilience of health professionals. These outcomes have been published from University of Rochester, Johns Hopkins, University of Wisconsin, Mayo Clinic, and many other institutions where this program has been instituted or adapted.
For this program, attendance at previous “Introduction to Mindful Practice” program is not required.

This retreat will introduce and further explore the three approaches used to acquire skills that can transform participants’ overall clinical approach: narrative medicine, appreciative inquiry and mindfulness meditation.  We will apply these skills to address the following themes: Introduction, Noticing, Responding to Suffering, Compassionate Action, When Things go Wrong, Grief and Loss, Resilience, and Bringing it Home.

Fees include $599.00 for registration (meals and snacks are included) with additional room rate of $94.00-$140.00 per night.
Attendance for the entire workshop is recommended but not required. There will be a maximum of 25 participants.
